Sergeant LS Kirby

Leonard Stanley Kirby enlisted into the Rifle Brigade on April 27th 1939. He transferred to the Intelligence Corps on 7th October 1943.

By the end of his service, Sergeant Kirby had been awarded, left to right; The 1939-45 Star, the Africa Star with 1st Army Clasp, the Italy Star, the Defence Medal, the War Medal and the Efficiency Decoration with ‘Territorial’ superscript.

After the war, Sergeant Kirby served with 62 Field Security Section in Germany where he met and married a local lady. The couple had then to endure what was not always a very efficiently managed process for getting ‘Foreign Born’ wives back to the UK when he ended his service in 1947.
