Fowler FTT, Corporal
Whilst there are many recorded acts of bravery carried out when face to face with the enemy, there are just as many that were carried out when not in direct contact with the foe. In 1944 Corporal Frank Fowler and Lieutenant Allan MacDonald, both Intelligence Corps, were awarded George Medals (GM) for helping rescue American servicemen from a crash site after their aircraft had been shot down over England.
Corporal Fowler was also awarded the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star, the War Medal and the Defence Medal. Completing his set is the Civil Defence Long Service Medal, instituted in 1961 and awarded for 15 years service in a wide range of Civil Defence organisations.
