Captain Alex. F Carter joined the Royal Hampshire Regiment in 1939 before transferring to the Intelligence Corps, being one of the earliest recruits to the new unit when it formed in July 1940.

In 2020 the family of Captain Carter gifted his medals to the Royal Hampshire Regiment (RHR) Museum. Considering that they were of more relevance to our collection, the RHR Museum offered them to us and we gratefully accepted.

Captain Carter never mounted his medals for wearing and they came to us still in their paper wrappers inside the issue boxes as displayed here.

They are: 1939-45 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, War Medal 1939-45 and the Territorial Efficiency Medal, this last medal being awarded in 1949 when he was a Lieutenant in the Royal Signals Territorials.
