London LA
Intelligence operations are supported by many services who provide essential back up, skills and material. Mr L.A ‘Albert’ London served in the Admiralty’s Small Vessels Pool, moving smaller boats as required by the Navy and other services. His family never discovered where these voyages took place, or for what purpose, as they were ‘secret’, although it is unlikely that he made trips outside of UK waters.
His family business also provided garments for clandestine purposes, for example sewing escape and evasion and other secretive materials into clothing for SOE. ‘Albert’ London’s miniature medals are, from left to right: 1939-45 Star, Defence Medal, War Medal and Special Constabulary Long Service Medal, dated 1941. His full-scale Defence Medal and ‘Specials’ medal are also displayed.
