Staff Sergeant D Macdonald
The diversity of postings available to members of the Intelligence Corps lures many soldiers and officers from other units and in 1974 Duncan ‘Mac’ MacDonald succumbed, transferring in from the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers with whom he had served since 1968.
‘Mac’ then served in a range of intelligence, counter-intelligence, security and training support roles in Northern Ireland, Belize, Belgium, Germany, the UK, Cyprus and in the Falklands during the 1982 Campaign. As a Staff Sergeant, Mac’s last posting saw him as security advisor for the movement of Challenger main battle tanks to the British Army Training Unit Suffield (BATUS) in Canada.
From left to right, Mac’s medals are: General Service Medal with Northern Ireland Clasp, South Atlantic Medal with Rosette and Long Service and Good Conduct Medal.
