McShannon GP, Staff Sergeant
All officers and soldiers are given their unique Regimental Number on entering service and it is a number that is never forgotten.
Staff Sergeant Gerald Peter McShannon had the extremely easy task of memorising his number, 23171723.
His General Service Medal with Borneo Clasp marks just one chapter in his service, which also saw him in Cyprus, Libya, Malawi and Oman as well as the UK.
His 1973 obituary recorded that ‘His loyalty and true comradeship will be sadly missed.'
