Doyle JC, Staff Sergeant
British forces were deployed to the Sultanate of Oman in 1970 to help the Sultan’s forces quell tribal uprisings in the Dhofar region.
One group fighting against the Sultan was the Communist-backed Popular Front for the Liberation Of The Occupied Arabian Gulf (PFLOAG). The Dhofari rebels were eventually defeated and Britain’s close relationship with the Sultanate of Oman continues to this day.
In 1988 Staff Sergeant JC Doyle donated his Omani Peace Medal and a miniature Omani Medal that celebrated the Sultan’s 10th Anniversary on the throne. SSgt Doyle also ‘collected’ the PFLOAG pin badge displayed here.
