Sergeant Percy John Smith was one of the early contingent members as recorded by the clasp 5th Aug-22nd Nov 1914 on his 1914 Star. There followed the award of the War Medal and the Victory Medal with a mention in Despatches (MiD) signified by the Oak Leaf. Percy Smith ended the war as a Warrant Officer First Class (WO1).

His public service is recorded by the fourth medal from the left, a Metropolitan Police Coronation Medal from 1911. These follows the Meritorious Service Medal, awarded when he was a Sergeant, and Royal Victorian Medal which was awarded to those who had preformed personal services to the Sovereign or members of the Royal family.
