E.R.A.J Gout began the war as a private in the Rifle Brigade, as which he was awarded the 1914-15 Star. Commissioned soon after, he was awarded the OBE, the War Medal and the Victory Medal which bares an Oak Leaf signifying that he was also mentioned in Despatches. The final medal in the group is the Order of King George 1 awarded by Greece.
