Fryers JL, Lieutenant

In 1913 John Fryers (1889-1959) was Assistant Master modern languages at Merchant Taylor School. He enlisted in 1914, was commissioned in 1917 and mobilised to France with the Intelligence Corps of 5th Division where he was graded as ‘Agent 4th Class’. He demobilised in February 1919.
The London Gazette of 3rd June 1919 recorded the award of the military Cross to Major Fryers on the Birthday honours list. He was also awarded the War Medal and Victory Medal as well as being Mentioned in Despatches as signified by the Oak Leaf.
